Once you have identified the applications to migrate ASNA Monarch™ takes iSeries/i5 RPG programs, display files, CL, menus, message files, data areas, printer files and data files to .NET in a matter of minutes. You don't need to populate a secondary repository or otherwise prepare the original program - they are ready to go as is.
Monarch has built-in metrics to help you identify hotspots that have the potential to require more hands-on migration work. This "density" factor is designed to help you quickly identify those programs that will move quickly from those that will need additional work.
Monarch migrates your interactive 5250 program to ASP.TET browser-based application running in IIS 6.0.
Not only does Monarch reuse your source code, but, because that source persists as RPG, your existing RPG development team retains "ownership" of the newly-hosted .NET programs. There is no Java, C++ or C# code generated. It is 100% ASNA Visual RPG and 100% maintainable by your existing RPG programmers.
ASNA Monarch™ is much more than a simple-source migration facility. Monarch is a comprehensive set of tightly coupled technologies that analyse your iSeries applications and moves them to Microsoft .NET. While retaining the value of your iSeries investment, Monarch not only breathes new live into existing iSeries/i5 application portfolio, it also provides your enterprise's entry point into the exciting world of .NET, Web Services and Service Oriented Architecture.
Tightly coupled with other ASNA .NET technologies, ASNA Monarch™ migrates your green-screen RPG to ASNA Visual RPG for .NET. Once migrated, you compile that code with ASNA Visual RPG's compiler. You are in full control of the project along the way. And, after migrating a project, you can easily customize and extend that project in a number of ways.
Uniquely positioned
Monarch distinguishes itself from other simple-source translators in a variety of ways:
While other products attempt to translate RPG into C# or Java, Monarch converts your iSeries/i5 RPG/400 and RPG IV fixed and free source code into RPG for .NET. Monarch's RPG is compiled with ASNA Visual RPG for .NET to create 100% verifiable Microsoft Intermediate Language (MSIL) binaries.
Using its Migration Agent technology, Monarch converts collateral, yet important, parts of the application (including Menus, CL, Display Files, Printer Files, Message Files and Data Areas) to provide a full migration of the application. Monarch even implements the program message queue.
To ensure the migration process is effective and includes everything necessary, Monarch provides its own OS/400 object inspector-that communicates directly and in real time to the iSeries/i5.
This capability is another reason Monarch is truly a full-features application re-hosting facility. Employing ASNA DataGate for SQL Server, the Visual RPG applications continue to use the familiar RPG data access operation codes like CHAIN, READE, READP, COMMIT, ROLBK. There is no SQL substitution in the programs!
"I just wanted to let you know we successfully migrated our first series of inquiry programs for the county access system in one afternoon." INFOCON SOFTWARE
"I don't have to tell you that Monarch is an excellent product, because you already know it. I saw it for myself this week. Monarch is taking my software to a level I was beginning to think it could never get too. I would also like to thank you Tim for your patience while teaching an (not too) old dog new tricks." RICE DATA SYSTEMS
"We needed to migrate our legacy RPG application to .NET. As an PRG programmer for 18 years, I was not too enthusiastic about PC programming options. It would have been an overwhelming task to rewrite all 1000 programs in .NET. Using ASNA's Monarch makes that migration a snap. There is really no comparison for having Monarch do it automatically.
Whoever thought IBM and Microsoft platforms could be integrated at all? The proverbial oil and water in the technology industry. But, ASNA has managed to bring these two together with little effort on the part of the developer." NORTH CAROLINA STATE BAR
