Redwood Systems teams up with ASNA
to bring expert consulting services to iSeries/400 users.
Redwood Systems Limited AS/400 specialists and leading
providers of Professional Services to major global companies, has today announced
collaboration with ASNA to provide iSeries integration,
application extension and migration to .NET
Chris Watkiss (Director) said, “Over the last few decades many
companies have invested heavily in IBM midrange platforms and RPG programming skills.
However, IBM's roadmap of moving to Java is not something that all our customers
wish to do. Many of them are very happy with the platform; but our customers do
recognise that the way of carrying out business is changing.”
With the ever-increasing use of the internet, Redwood wanted to be able
to offer their customers more than just the IBM option. “We set about looking at
the alternatives and very quickly came to realise that Microsoft's .NET technology
was gaining enormous momentum, and that recognition of Visual Studio .NET as a stable
and versatile application development environment was increasing” comments
Gail Phillips (Sales and Marketing Manager). However, the question for Redwood was how
to combine the iSeries skills they had in-house with .NET.
Following some careful research, Redwood focused on ASNA's product suite. After attending
several ASNA events, Redwood's Watkiss said, “We were convinced that using the RPG compiler
within .NET would enable us to not only keep retraining costs to a minimum but also enable
us to offer a more logical and cost effective option to iSeries companies than J2EE.”
Watkiss goes on to say that, “part of our service offering includes application and platform
integration and migration, and we were really excited to learn about ASNA's Monarch technology.”
By using ASNA Monarch, companies with traditional green screen
applications can migrate either all, or part of their RPG code (including Synon generated RPG)
to RPG for .NET. The resulting migrated code can then be compiled to run as .NET assemblies.
The data can either remain on the AS/400 or be moved to SQL Server.
Redwood's decision to partner with ASNA has already proved fruitful,
their first .NET customer signed up within a few days with others in negotiation.
The limitless new opportunities for their iSeries customers ensure that they optimise
any future application development. The move to Microsoft's modern .NET development
environment enables Redwood Systems to lead from the front whilst
significantly increasing their ability to keep the promise of delivering powerful,
sophisticated solutions on time and within budget.
