Data migration specialist with 7 years IT experience. Involved in a number of high volume data migrations across many databases and methodologies including use of ETL (Extract, Transform and Load) tools and API's, working to ISO 9001/TickIT standards throughout.

Education:

BSc (Hons) Mathematics. 1st Class.

Roles and Responsibilities

Team Leader:

Responsible for ensuring customer needs are met through timely and efficient completion of deliverables. Liaising with the customer to incorporate customer-directed changes into the analysis and development. Working with the customer to manage issues and remove obstacles.

Analyst:

Liaising with business and subject matter experts as needed in order to complete and fully document the Data Mapping from legacy database schema to target including any transformations needed and Specifications driven by the output of the data mapping activities above to guide the developers in the coding of the extract, transform and load (ETL) modules as well as any reconciliation and data cleanse that may be required.

Migration Developer:

Development of bespoke code according to the specification and data mapping for the following areas:

  • Extraction and Loading of raw data from Legacy/Target/Interim databases
  • Migration/Transformation. Safe, reliable manipulation of data
  • Reconciliation.
  • Referential File Integrities.

Migration Execution:

Preparation of databases and execution of developed code for extracts, transform and load of the data adhering to strict timescales and running order throughout. Liaising closely with all inter-dependent steps in the plan and supporting quality assurance team in timely resolution of reconciliation, integrity and eye balling issues.

Quality Assurance:

The role of 'Quality Assurance' ensures that data is extracted and transformed without loss or corruption by :

  • Reconciliation: Counts and summations of critical data on both legacy and target systems to independently validate the end-to-end migration process and allow mitigation of any differences. Typically reported in a spreadsheet. Discrepancies must be within an agreed tolerance limit.
  • Referential Integrity: Validation that migrated data is fit and accurate enough to be usable on the target system i.e. that the data conforms to the constraints of the target system (e.g. non duplicates, correct data types etc…).
