This project, performed in association with IBM, migrated 500,000 cable TV and telephony customers together with their provisioning information and account history.
The impetus behind the migration was the ongoing high maintenance costs of the two separate legacy systems and their inherent functionality restrictions.
The new system was to allow the business to consolidate its existing customer base as well as giving them the possibility of diversifying their offering to potential customers through expansion into two-way TV and impulse pay-per-view (IPPV).
The project commenced in August of 1997 and the new system went live in March of 1998. Post migration support was provided for 3 months thereafter.
Redwood Systems were retained to provide the data mapping, subsequent program design and all related development.
The associated address pools were cleaned prior to migration and the plant/network data remodelled and validated to ensure a fit with the new systems requirements.
The development was split into functional areas and development performed concurrently. Tight communication between groups working on separate areas maintained the cohesiveness of modules and enabled the speedy resolution of any issues encountered.
A suite of reconciliation software validated the end-to-end process and integrity routines ensured the cleanliness of the final data prior to load.
Migration control software was designed to batch run the logical series of modules in the correct order taking into account any interdependencies and streaming the programs in the shortest possible timeframe. It also enabled the migration to be rolled back to defined checkpoints should errors be encountered that required fixing; thus minimising downtime and maximising productivity.
